    Get in the Game - READ
                   
RFPL is excited to announce the 2008 Summer Reading Program "Get in the Game - READ" which runs from June 16th through July 25th.  Registration begins June 16th.  Join the RFPL team and play our summer reading game. A Rookie Reader can sign up to read with a parent or older sibling; an independent reader can join our All Star team.  You’ll receive a game card and score points weekly during our summer reading season.  Players can win a book every other week and there will be a weekly raffle drawing for those who turn in a scorecard.  Every player who completes a scorecard for all 6 weeks of Get in the Game- READ will receive a special prize.

Game On! 
There is always some fun to be found at your library…

Grab a Game on Mondays
A variety of games will be available for kids and caregivers to play together.

Lunch with a Local Athlete on Wednesdays
at Noon
Pack a lunch, grab a blanket, and head to the library to meet one of our local athletes.  Our guest speakers will offer a demonstration of their sport skills and you will have an opportunity to ask them questions.  This program will be outside on the lawn as weather permits.  Bubbles, chalk and lawn games will be available after the presentation.

Get in the Game-Create on Thursdays 1-4pm
Stop by the library for some open-ended creative art experiences.  We’ll supply the materials…you bring your creativity!  Parent or caregiver must assist children under 6.

Contest Day on Fridays
Give your brain a workout and stop in the Children’s room each Friday for a new contest challenge. Players will ponder the puzzles, guess the games, search the stacks, and solve some stumpers in order to win a prize.

Family Storytime

Tuesday 11am   
Join Miss Sue for a weekly drop-in program for families with stories, movement and music.

Tuesdays 7pm 
Wear your pajamas and bring a stuffed friend to our weekly evening program.  We will alternate with a weekly storytime or animated movie geared for 3-7 year olds.

Special Events:

Kick Off Party with Bill Buczinsky
Monday June 16th 1pm  
Help us kick off Get in the Game - READ by introducing your kids to the game of poetry.  Performer Bill Buczinsky will have the kids bouncing to rhythms, kicking up images, and running around metaphors in his hour-long participatory poetry program.

Juggling Workshop
Saturday June 21st  1pm  
Get in the Game and learn to juggle with Mike Vondruska.  This 1 hour total participation workshop for ages 5 years and up targets balancing and the hand-eye coordination skills required for learning to juggle.

Play a Game:  Learn about the Brain!
"Fact or Fiction: The Neurosurgery Reality Show"
Thursday, July 10th at 7:30pm
R.F. resident and neurosurgeon, Dr. Gail Rosseau, and her son Brendan, a 7th grade
student at Roosevelt Middle School will present their family game show program on the wonders and advancements being made in the field of neurosurgery. Contestants can win a prize and all audience members are sure to gain some new knowledge about this fascinating field of medicine.  This program is best suited for families with children ages 9 and up.

Dave Rudolf Get in the Game Concert

Friday July 25th 7pm
Everyone is invited to the library to celebrate the end of Get In The Game-Read. The energetic Dave Rudolf will have the whole family moving and grooving during his participatory musical concert.

Support the Team by Volunteering

Trainers
  
Kids entering 8th grade and up can volunteer to help with summer reading. Responsibilities may include working the summer reading desk, making displays or organizing games and crafts. Teen volunteers are asked to commit for at least 12 hours but not more than 22 hours during the summer. Pick up an application at the library and return it by Friday June 6th.  Our orientation meeting will be held on Tuesday June 12th at 6pm.


Field Crew   

Kids entering 5th through 7th grade can join our support crew and help us work on supervised library projects on Monday afternoons from 2:00-3:30pm June 16th  through July 21st.   This is a flexible schedule; volunteers may come every week or any week they are available.  Pick up an application at the Children’s Room desk and return it by Friday June 6th.
